Top-Rated and Bestselling Romantic Comedy Author D. D. Scott - both a Nation Daily and Pixel of Ink Bargain Book Pick – is gettin’ “cozy” with all your fave Bootscootin’ Books Characters...as in Cozy Mystery cozy...with Book One of her new, Cozy Cash Mysteries.

Think The Rachel Zoe Project meets Bond, James Bond and a Madoff-style, Ponzi-scheming King.

Book Description

Hollywood Stylist to The Stars Zoey Witherspoon is a wanna-be Stephanie Plum, and to that end, she’s now moonlighting as a badge-toting P.I. But on her way to style one of her infamously diva-esque clients, she discovers her first Dead Guy in a Range Rover parked next to her. And this isn’t just any dead guy. It’s the guy with a Russian mob connection, who her former client, Ponzi-scheming King Bernard McCall, hired to knock her off.

Bond, James Bond-style Double Agent Roman Bellesconi is hell-bent on bringing down Ponzi-scheming King Bernard McCall. Why? Because (1) that’s his job. But also because (2) he’s got a lot more at stake than job security. If he doesn’t bring down Bernie, his family’s monarchy will be destroyed.

As the dead guys keep piling-up around ‘em, Zoey may be damn sick of Roman’s deep and very dark secrets, but, she’s also convinced that perhaps, like Roman’s been reiterating, it’s only because he’s keeping those secrets, they’re both still alive. But is there a way for their cover to be blown, Roman’s secrets thus revealed, and each of ‘em live to tell about it?

Thug Guard The Cozy Cash Mysteries Book 1 edition by D D Scott Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

When I found Thug Guard for only .99, it sounded great. The plot description sounded just like something I'd adore. I quickly clicked "Buy Now" and then waited to begin reading it on vacation--it sounded like the perfect read for a beach trip!

As I started it, I found that while the idea was great, the actual story fell flat. I'm not sure if Ms. Scott needs a new editor, or just an editor in general. As another reviewer mentioned, there were more mistakes than should have been. As a former English major, they grated on my nerves and seriously detracted from the story. I don't claim to be perfect, but feel that books should not have errors on every page--and glaring errors at that. A misplaced comma here and there--no biggie, I do that myself. Misspellings and flat out wrong grammar (again, see previous reviews, I don't have any direct quotations to share) drive me bonkers!

My second bone of contention is in the plot. At the start of the story, Zoey finds Roman annoying and irritating. Suddenly, with nothing leading up to it--Zoey's fallen for Roman and is flirting with him. Um, okay. I thought you just said he was a pain? Then, just as suddenly, he likes her to (having shown NO signs of this until it became apparent to the author she needed them to be together for plot issues) and boom, they're together. The author claims this to be the first in the series (more on that in a moment), yet took something that most authors develop over several books and rushed it in one. It felt contrived and rushed.

My final bone of contention (which probably should have been my first, but it's the biggest, so I left it for last) is that, while this is the first in a series, it feels like the second. After I started reading it, I searched everywhere online--Amazon, the author's own webpage, etc, and everything said this is the first. Through the whole book the author alludes to things that happened in the past as though the reader was there to experience them. I am absolutely obsessive about reading books in a series in order and this frustrated me to no end. It definitely hit it home to me that I will NEVER be able to read books in a series out of order.

Will I read the second in the series? Maybe, it'll depend on the price. The story premise was GREAT, but I wish the book itself had been better. I'll wait on future purchases (unless it's free) to see what other reviewers have to say.

Thug Guard The Cozy Cash Mysteries Book 1 edition by D D Scott Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I thoroughly enjoyed Thug Guard and instantly took a liking to lead protagonist Zoey Witherspoon. She's sassy, witty and she's also feisty and one tough chick. I also happen to be a big fan of The Rachel Zoe project and part of the reason this story appealed to me is because it has it all - mystery, suspense, humor, a HAWT hero (Roman was delightful) and Fashion Week! I've just hopped on board DD.Scott's Cozy Cash Mysteries train and I'm enjoying the ride! Next stop - Lip Glock!
I was very disappointed in this book. There was very little plot. I'm not really sure who to blame for some of the grammatical mistakes -- the author or the editors. (Really? "Roman and I's last partnership"???) I'm really not sure why the book has so many positive reviews.
I really tried to keep reading this book. The author evidently put a lot of energy into it, but it is not only badly-written, it also lacks any real feeling.

Maybe it's just not my kind of book. I love action and mystery books, including kooky, high-life and cosy ones, but this one just kept pushing me out of the story.

Everyone has their own personal reaction to a story. Yours is up to you. )
I LOVED this book! I don't usually read mysteries, but this was listed as a "cozy mystery," so I thought I'd give it a try. It was SO funny, quick to read, & such a cool twist for the characters. I loved how the author carried over some of her characters from her previous "Bootscootin'" series, especially the "Mom Squad." Now I'm anxiously awaiting the second one in this series, so I can see what's going to happen next! I read the first three chapters, had to quit for a busy personal schedule, then went back to it 2 days later, couldn't put it down, & finished it! This is another MUST read from D.D. Scott!!!
If this book were free, I still wouldn't recommend someone read it. The grammar in the narrative is absolutely atrocious and there are so many word usage errors that it detracts from the story, which wasn't that great. Whoever edited this book should be fired. I have no objection to ungrammatical construction and usage in dialogue, because that is how people frequently speak. I can even understand using "I" after a preposition because so many make that mistake ("between you and ME" is the correct usage because pronouns used as OBJECTS of a preposition have to be in the OBJECTIVE case) but using "I" as a direct object is just ignorant and there is absolutely no excuse for repeatedly writing "Roman and I's [something]." The 1st person possessive is "MY," there is no such construction as "I's." There are many more examples, but I cannot bear the agony of revisiting them. Unfortunately, I have found that a great many e-books suffer from excruciatingly bad grammar and usage that could be easily remedied by running a Spell and Grammar Check.
Great leisure read.
Again too crazy for me. I'm sure dome will like the. The first book was good. Sorry.
